Rwenzori Trek Part 2: Climbing Margherita Peak and the Long Descent

In Part 2 of our Rwenzori Mountains adventure, we reach the summit of Margherita Peak (5,109m) — the highest point in Uganda and one of Africa’s most challenging climbs. This episode follows our journey from base camp to the glacier, with ropes and crampons, and onto the peak itself. Along the way:

  • Training with harnesses and ropes before the climb
  • Crossing the glacier and pushing toward the summit
  • Celebrating at the top with views of Alexander, Baker, Speke, and Albert peaks
  • Battling a snowstorm on the descent and learning to abseil down slippery rocks
  • Trekking past waterfalls, heather forests, bamboo groves, and rainforest
  • Returning to Trekkers Hotel after 74 km, tired, muddy, and happy to have completed the trek

This is the heart of the journey — the summit day and the long way back.
