We begin our 8-day journey into Uganda’s Rwenzori Mountains, aiming for the summit of Margherita Peak at 5,109 meters. This first episode takes us from the village of Kilembe (next to Kasese) through rainforest, bamboo groves, and cloud forest, all the way to Margherita Base Camp. Along the way:
- We cross into Rwenzori National Park and climb through five ecological zones
- Spot monkeys, birds, and edible begonia in the rainforest
- Visit Kalalama, Mutinda, and Bugata camps, each with its own dramatic setting
- Traverse boardwalks built by porters through deep mud and flood zones
- Reach Bamwanjara Pass at 4,450m
- Catch our first glimpse of Mount Stanley
- Prepare for summit day with crampons and rope training
