Nestled at the foot of the mystical Rwenzori Mountains, Rwenzori Trekking Services (RTS) was born out of a deep-rooted love for Uganda’s untouched wilderness. Founded by John Hunwick alongside local mountain guides who grew up exploring the “Mountains of the Moon,” our story is one of passion, purpose, and partnership.
What began with guiding adventurous travellers up forest trails has blossomed into a trusted, eco-conscious trekking service. Our mission is simple yet powerful: to share the breathtaking beauty of the Rwenzoris with the world while empowering the communities that call these mountains home.
Every trek with RTS supports local employment, education initiatives, and vital conservation work. This is more than just a business, it’s a legacy built on community and stewardship.

Our Base: Trekkers Hostel, Kilembe
Located 12km from Kasese town above Kilembe copper mines in Kyanjuki village, Trekkers Hostel is the heartbeat of our ground operations and a welcoming launchpad for adventurers from around the globe.

Training for Excellence
From technical climbing and crevasse rescue training on Mt. Stanley to refresher courses in wilderness first aid and customer care, our guides together with Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) rangers undergo regular, hands-on training to ensure safety, professionalism, and unforgettable mountain experiences.

Commitment to Conservation
In partnership with Ski Club Uganda, we are actively involved in tree planting along the River Nyamwamba to combat the increasing threat of floods in the Kilembe community. We also engage local youth in conservation education, nurturing the next generation of environmental stewards.

At Rwenzori Trekking Services, we believe every step taken in the Rwenzoris tells a story of resilience, wonder, and hope. Join us on the trail and become part of something greater.
