Description Size Size: 11cm,4,5’’ Identification An adult male is similar to Rockefeller’s Sunbird but is different in having extensive bright yellow on sides of breast and franks and a shorter bill. A female and immature are dark olive green above with brighter yellowish-olive edge to the primaries often forming a wing panel,and paler olive below with a blackish tail. Call/Song Distribution
Habitat. Highland forests and including edges and clearings from 1550m to 3000m mainly above 1800m in Albertine Lift where mainly occurring as an endemic. Breeding/Nesting Their breeding season goes from November to January (in Ruwenzori mountains)and use the middle level of schrubs and some tree branches for nesting. Movement They move by shifting from one plant to another by short flyings. Local Information This sunbird is known as a nectar sucker from banana plants when the forest in the area is near the cultivation area,but no use from the local community culture. |
